Xi'an Physical Education University (hereinafter referred to as "Xi'an sports university") was founded in 1954. It is one of the earliest six major sports colleges in New China. It was originally under the State General Administration of sports (State Sports Commission). In 2001, it was jointly built by the central and local governments, with local management as the main task, and jointly built by Shaanxi Provincial People's government and the State General Administration of sports. It is the only sports college in Northwest China.As of April 2017, the college has three campuses: headquarters, fengyukou and Fuyi, covering an area of 920 mu. There are 850 teaching staff and 578 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 390 teachers with master's degree or above, accounting for 67.5% of the total number of teachers; 67 teachers with doctor's degree, accounting for 11.6% of the total number of teachers; 5 experts and scholars with the honorary titles of outstanding contribution experts in Shaanxi Province, outstanding young and middle-aged academic and technical leaders of the State General Administration of sports, and famous teachers in Shaanxi Province; and 99 master's supervisors. There are more than 8800 full-time students, more than 8100 undergraduates and nearly 700 postgraduates.Mr. Yuan, Mr. Wu, Mr. Liu and other leaders of the State Sports Commission successively supported the development of the Institute. After several generations of unremitting efforts and historical accumulation, it has formed the school running tradition and characteristics of "honesty, frugality, diligence, unity and hard work, realistic innovation, patriotism and honor school", and cultivated more than 30000 high-quality sports talents for the country.
