Beijing Dance Academy is a full-time college with high-quality dance talents training, high-level dance theory research and creation as its main tasks. It is the first professional dance school in the people's Republic of China.The school, formerly known as Beijing Dance School, was founded in 1954. In 1978, it was officially established with the approval of the State Council, and was subordinate to the Ministry of culture. In 2000, it was transferred to the Beijing Municipal People's government.According to the official website of the school in February 2020, the school covers an area of 86 mu, with 12 teaching units, 11 undergraduate majors, 1 master's degree authorization point of first-class discipline and 1 master's degree authorization category. The school has nearly 600 teaching staff, and nearly 2300 full-time students (more than 1300 undergraduates, nearly 200 postgraduates and more than 800 students from affiliated middle school), with academic and non academic qualifications More than 7000 students were educated.
