The Central Conservatory of music, as an institution of higher learning representing the level of western music education in China, is committed to training professionals engaged in western music theory research, creation, performance and education. It is one of the 11 independent professional Conservatory of music in China and the first batch of "world-class discipline construction universities" in China.The school was originally established in 1940 in Qingmuguan, Chongqing, and was demobilized from Nanjing after the victory of the Anti Japanese war. In 1949, it was founded in Tianjin by the National Conservatory of music (including kindergarten classes), the music troupe of Lu Xun School of literature and art in Northeast China, the Music Department of School of literature and art of North China University, the Music Department of national Peiping College of art, and the Chinese Conservatory of music in Shanghai and Hong Kong. It was officially named at the end of the same year, and the inauguration ceremony was held in the early summer of 1950. In 1952, the Music Department of Yanjing University was incorporated into the National College and department adjustment. Moved from Tianjin to Beijing in 1958.As of July 2018, the university has set up 15 teaching units with a total of 3357 full-time students, including 1546 undergraduates, 672 masters, 118 doctoral students and 1021 affiliated middle schools (including primary schools).
